Hey friends! Its been awhile since I posted in here, but I'm just popping in to share a little bit about my short 4-day trip to New York this past week for my Birthday! It was such a fun trip. We did soooo much more than we expected! Day 1: Walked through Central Park, rented a little canoe, took pictures at the MET & at night we went to Time Square! So fun! We ate at a Cuban restaurant called "Havana Central". My family ordered the Pork with rice and beans, the Ropa Vieja, and I got the salmon with tostones. The service was amazing, super fast, and the food was delicious! Highly recommend it! Day 2: Breakfast at Starbucks haha, nothing fancy here. On this day we decided to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and see the 9/11 Memorial since they're close by. We took the Subway to visit Chinatown and Little Italy. Funny story: when we were in the Subway a man invited us to his restaurant "Umberto's Clam House" in Little Italy and offered us free wine and sangria! So we ended up there and the food was delicious! We got: - House-bread with olive oil in garlic and spices - Fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, basil, and balsamic glaze - Homemade Meatballs in marinara with parmesan cheese on top - Garlic and olive oil broccoli - My mom got a pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, basil, sundried tomatoes which was amazing! Then walked through the Highline (a park 30 ft above the street on an old rail line), which led us to the Chelsea Market (a huge building filled with many shops, and restaurants -- I loved it). And we took a long 20 minute walk to see the "Friends" apartment building around the West Village. The walk wasn't that bad because the neighborhood itself is super nice. You feel like you're in a movie haha. Afterwards, we took a cab back to the hotel, and bought some chicken kebabs, a hamburger and lots of fries from the food truck across from our hotel. The food was better than expected and super cheap haha. That is what I call late night fast food hahaha. Day 3: Breakfast at The Butcher's Daughter! I had planned on this for such a long time and I finally went! We got there around 9am and it was the perfect time. We got seated right away, and service was super fast! I got the Smashed Avocado Toast Benedict 🍞🥑🍳 (but with fried eggs instead of poached) and Hollandaise sauce on the side just in case I didn’t like it (which I did)😜 I also got a wellness shot, and an americano which was soooo good and much needed! My mom got the 9-grain French Toast, my sister got the Monterrey Eggs and all of it was delicious too!😋 Then we headed for a walk towards the famous Flat Iron Building, and on our way we stopped at Washington Square Park, did some window shopping, and saw part of the NYU campus (which is very nice by the way). That afternoon while my mom and stepdad went to the Yankees game, my sister and I went to see Wicked on Broadway. The theater itself is amazingly decorated, it even had a bar, a Wicked gift shop, and they even sold some snacks to eat during the show! Although I recommend you bring your own to save some $$ haha. I brought an RXBar and it held me over just until the show finished! Anyways, about the show... OH. MY. GOD. Its the best show I have ever seen. If you have not seen it, do yourself a favor and next time you go to Broadway, choose this musical. Its so unexpected, funny, and has a very nice message. The stage, decoration, lights, effects, dancers, costumes, the singers... EVERYTHING. Just go. After the show my family and I met up at the Hard Rock Café in Time Square around 5:15pm which was the perfect time because the wait was only about 35 minutes in comparison to when we left which was about 2 hours... Yep. Anyways, the food was good. Day 4: Last day... And you know what that means? Waking up extra early to get ready, pack, checkout of the hotel and leave your bags there so you can kill time before its time to leave for the airport. So thats what we did. We did not plan our breakfast so we ended up at a café and after we ordered we realized that it was super overpriced, and the service was terrible... Oh well. Anyways, next up was the Empire State Building! We got there around 10am so there was no line! Yay! It was also nice because the day was chilly/rainy instead of super hot like all the other days. On our way to Time Square AGAIN we stopped at Bryant Park, took some pictures, and then headed towards 5th Avenue to take some pictures at Tiffany's. Hahaha. And lastly, we walked all the way to our hotel again, got our bags, and a cab to the airport. Once we got there I had to say goodbye to my family because we were in different terminals, which was very sad. But its okay, I know that I'll see them in a couple of months so that makes me happy. Also, it was 6pm and I hadn't had any lunch, just breakfast and some snacks so you can imagine how starving I was... But as usual, there are very few options at the airport, ESPECIALLY IN MY SMALL TERMINAL that had only 10 gates and about 5 places to eat (two of which were very expensive, the third one was a café offering just coffee and pastries, and the other two were Dunkin Donuts, and an airport mini market. I ended up in the refrigerated section of the mini market, got myself a cold turkey sandwich on wheat, with a side of fruit and a Kind Bar hoping that this would be cheaper than the restaurant meals... It ended up being $21.00. Super expensive.. and I was kind of skeptical about the sandwich, thinking that I wouldn't like it, but it wasn't that bad (approx. a 6/10 in flavor) but I looked at the bigger picture, and realized that this was the fuel that my body needed (carbs + fats +protein) so the overall meal ended up being a 9/10 because it filled me up and I slept well on my long plane ride back home. Sometimes a meal won't be amazing in flavor, and that is okay... But honoring your hunger and appreciating the food that is available to you makes the experience a whole lot better. I posted a story on it here. Anyways, I hope you liked this travel blog post! If you did, please let me know so that I can post more! :) Wishing everyone a great week!
